Get Creative with Create TV
If you are like me and enjoy knitting, crocheting, quilting, sewing, or some other creative hobby, you are bound to find something you will enjoy on Create TV. Create TV is delivered to homes via public television networks such as PBS and American Public Television on basic cable and local digital television. Create TV premiered in 2004 in Boston, MA, and was developed to serve the needs of viewers and their increasing hunger for how-to programming.

Within a couple years, the channel spread across markets throughout the United States. While the majority of Create TV channels broadcast 24 hours per day, some only offer blocks of programming at certain times of the day or week. Please consult your local listings for more information about what is offered in your area. If Create TV is not available where you live, you can always contact your local public television station to let them know you want this channel in your market.

Programs offered include episodes from viewers’ favorite lifestyle and do-it-yourself public television series on not only the aforementioned topics, but also gardening, painting, cooking, home improvement, and travel. Some of my favorite series on Create TV include Knit and Crochet Now!, Knit and Crochet Today, Baking with Julia, and Katie Brown Workshop.

Examples of other gems one can find on this specialty channel include Lap Quilting with Georgia Bonesteel, Fon’s and Porter’s Love of Quilting, The Donna Dewberry Show, Rick Steves’ Europe, and Sewing with Nancy. In its tradition of always striving to provide the highest quality programming, beginning April 21 Create TV will air The Cooking Odyssey. This series is hosted by chef Yannis Mameletzis and combines both cooking and travel. Mameletzis will bring viewers along on a virtual tour of the sights and tastes of Greece.

Create TV also offers viewers all-day themed programming marathons on Saturdays. A recent marathon, April in Paris, centered on the attractions and cuisine of Paris, France. Future marathons include It’s Not Easy Being Green, a celebration of Earth Day during which all programming will focus on eco-friendliness, and Wonders of the World, a globe trekking adventure to the Great Barrier Reef, the Great Wall of China, and more.

If you happen to miss something on your favorite program, Create TV also has a website where viewers can locate some of the featured recipes and project instructions. The Create TV Shop on the same website also gives fans a chance to purchase series DVDs and related books.

If you are the creative or DIY type, or even if you wish to learn a new craft, I highly recommend tuning into Create TV for some great inspiration. I have discovered many great tips and new project ideas for knitting, crochet, home decorating, and more.
