Overlooking the Past

Overlooking the Past
There are times in our lives that we meditate on things that happened in our past. We think on the what ifs of life. These meditations can cause us to become filled with regret. If we had only done this, then we would be so much farther in life or if I had done that, then things would have turned out so much differently. There is a way to move away from the what if’s in life to a life filled with peace and satisfaction.

According to Philippians 3:13 -14 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. We must get to a place where we learn from our lessons in life and use that experience for our good.

The past is the past. We can never recover it again, nor will we see that moment in time again. It is gone. Just as it moved from present to past, we must move on as well. These scriptures tell us that we have a choice in the matter. We can choose to forget those things which are behind us and press toward achieving our God-given purpose.

We have control of our mind. Sometimes it may feel as if our thoughts have minds of their own. Our thoughts can seem as if they bombard our minds a million miles per hour. All these little thoughts are imaginations. The bible tells us that we are to cast down imaginations. We are not to hold on to every thought that enters our mind.

We must learn how to let go of the past by thinking on things that are positive. Philippians 4:8 says Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

When we learn to think on things that bring joy instead of worry and doubt, we will see things in a more positive light. Learn to let go of the past and look forward to tomorrow. Blessings are new every morning. Begin the day by giving thanks and watch things change.

Be Blessed.
